Woody Branch Community Park

The City of Dallas, in partnership with Trust for Public Land (TPL), is creating a new greenspace and park in the vacant 82-acre forested property along the Woody Branch of Five Mile Creek in the Glen Oaks neighborhood. Woody Branch is part of the Five Mile Creek Urban Greenbelt Master Plan, which calls for a network of parks and natural areas across the Five Mile Creek watershed in Oak Cliff.

In partnership with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, TPL will be leading the design and development of this new public greenspace. TPL will connect with residents, community leaders, and youth of Glen Oaks to design and develop a community-inspired master plan that reflects the community’s unique identity and their recreational and educational needs and wants. TPL will be hosting community meetings that will incorporate participatory design activities guided by TPL and the landscape architect to get feedback from the community. TPL will also share activities and surveys online via email, their website, and Facebook for community members who might not be able to join the meetings.

This new public greenspace and park will not only help provide best-in-class park amenities for the Glen Oaks neighborhood but will also help protect over 16,800 trees and one mile of creekbank. These trees will capture over 3,700 metric tons of carbon each year, which will help mitigate climate change impacts as part of Dallas’s Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP) and lessen the impacts of urban heat islands across the community. Woody Branch Community Park will help provide a space for residents to spend quality time outdoors and learn about this unique riparian habitat in Dallas while also conserving this beautiful, forested Dallas landscape.
